How it works
Yes, we are appointment only. We will book you a one-hour consultation with your own dedicated hair loss consultant and are able to offer you the option of a private room. Click here to book an appointment.
You will only need a referral if you are wishing to see us through the NHS, we welcome both NHS and private clients.
Chemotherapy clients: You will need to see your chemo nurse or speak to your oncology consultant – a referral will need to be in place before a wig can leave the salon. Every Trust works differently so please speak with Kim, our friendly Front of House, who will be able to help as she works very closely with all of the hospitals we support.
Alopecia clients: You will need to go to your doctor and ask them to refer you for a dermatology appointment or you can visit us as a private client.
In a word, no! Wigs are specified as an exempt item on the HMRC’s website. Anyone going through any type of hair loss is exempt on paying VAT – this only applies to your hairpiece, not products or headwear. Our CRM system will automatically remove the VAT. We will ask you to complete a VAT exemption form during your visit.

Good question! Every Trust works differently, Yes, you will have to pay the prescription charge unless you have a valid exemption such as pension credits or universal tax credits. There are many exemptions so please do feel at ease to speak with either Amanda or Kim to double-check this.
Another good question. Every Trust works differently and we will help you depending on which hospital you are under, we are here to make this as easy for you as possible.
Some hospitals take payment over the phone, while others accept payment via cheque and some take payment at the cashier’s desk in the hospital. Please do feel at ease to speak with either Amanda or Kim to double-check this.
This is a tricky one. We are a dedicated hair loss salon only.
We will work very closely, supporting you through your journey with our specialist knowledge, to get your hair back to a point you are able to return to your mainstream hairdresser.
This may sound cold-hearted but this enables us to help more lovely clients through their journey as we did with you.
We are not your traditional, mainstream salon. Our clients are all suffering from some form of hair loss so you will not bump into your neighbour/colleague/friend having a curly blow dry!
Your discretion is paramount with private consultation rooms should you prefer, screens in our windows to obscure passing eyes from the High Street and we also have a rear entrance – off the High Street should you prefer to enter undetected. Our bags are branded with our logo which gives nothing away! Many of our clients have made new, like-minded, friends during their consultations…
Wigs and Hair Pieces
This is the question we are asked the most by our clients… manufacturing guidelines state a fibre wig will be in a good condition for approximately six months if it is cared for correctly and you use the products we recommend during your consultation. Human hair wigs can last about a year, again if cared for correctly.
Wigs oxidise so it is important that we recolour your human hair wig about every 3 months, we use opalex treatment in with the dye and an intense salon only treatment on the wig to hydrate and restore. See our human hair aftercare products and our fibre wig aftercare products.
Well, this is a tricky one to answer, it’s a personal choice. Fibre/modacrylic wigs are the better option if you do not like to spend much time styling your wig, Human hair wigs are ideal if you want to be creative with colour and different styles from one wig. It’s really down to your personal preference and this is something we will discuss with you during your consultation. Let’s look at the features of each.
- Low maintenance
- Fibre wigs are great for beginners who are new to wearing wigs
- Holds its style after a wash and condition
- A large variety of cap styles available: Machine weft, monofilament, double monofilament, lace fronted and comfort cap with open wefts for airflow
- Cheaper than human hair wigs
- Fibre wigs cannot be coloured or dyed
- Fibre wigs cannot be styled with any heat
- Human hair is most natural and realistic in appearance.
- A human hair wig can be worn in many different styles, just like your own bio hair. Up, down, messy bun – the list goes on.
- More maintenance required, perfect if you enjoy spending time on your hair.
- Usually supplied “part styled” or uncut allowing us to customise your human hair wig to be personally styled to your individual look.
- A choice of human hair, for example, 100% natural Remy, European hair.
- Can be styled using moderate heat including straighteners or curlers.
- Can be coloured (by our experienced stylists!) creating a root, balayage, highlight – anything you desire.
- We can create you your own bespoke made to measure human hair wig. Your individual made to measure wig will be made to fit your exact head size, the best cap construction to fit in with your lifestyle, made from your choice of human hair at your preferred density and not to forget your perfect colour.Click here to speak to us about your bespoke made to measure human hair wig.
We are proud to hold the National NHS contract and supply wigs for 11 hospitals. Each Trust operates slightly differently, in regards to the price per wig they offer, some offer human hair and fibre, some just fibre, some will contact you directly, while others come directly to us.
On average, clients who have an NHS referral in place are entitled to two wigs per year, one every six months. It is always best to speak directly to the orthotics department of your referring NHS hospital or speak to us in the salon as we are always happy to help you.

Everyone is different and experience different feelings and sensations. During the summer months, it can be warm wearing a wig, but using a thin, disposable wig liner under your wig will help combat the warmth and also assist with any perspiration.
Your wig should not rub or itch your scalp as our wigs are all made to a very high standard and are designed with special features to aid the scalp with breathing.
The wig cap design is constantly evolving as new materials are brought to the market – our suppliers are leaders in the industry. There is a huge variety of caps to choose from, we will always find the right construction for you to fit your budget.
The best way to store your wig overnight or when you are not wearing it is on a well-designed, breathable wig stand. There are many different styles of wig stand to choose from, from free standing to wig hangers that hang from your wardrobe clothes rail. Hair to Ware supply a three part, collapsible wig stand, perfect for travelling, as it is easily dismantled for ease of packing.
Life hack… If you are caught short, you can always hang your wig over the shower head or bannister for a night!
For human hair, we recommend our luxury head clamp and t-pins which enable you to securely blow-dry and style the wig.
We advise you do not sleep in your wig. This is because it will reduce the lifespan of your wig or hairpiece, as it will cause unwanted pressure on the fibres or human hair as they join the cap. Also sleeping in your wig or hairpiece will not be very comfortable. If you prefer to have your head covered while sleeping, we recommend using a turban or headscarf.
If you do choose to sleep in your wig, we recommend using a silk pillowcase or wearing a silk turban, which will minimise friction.
Why not… you can’t let anything stop you from living your best life and doing what you want when you want, BUT, we recommend you do not swim wearing your favourite wig. It’s not the water that will damage the wig but it’s what’s in the water that is the problem.
- Chlorine found in indoor and outdoor pools is a chemical at the end of the day and it will damage the wig cap and also the fibres of both human hair and fibre/modacrylic wigs.
- Saltwater is OK, it helps keep your wig looking new, but the actual salt that will deposit itself on the wig cap and hairs will absorb all of the moisture out of both. This will leave the hairs dried out and brittle not to mention the wig cap which will weaken and disintegrate.
So, the best thing to do is have an older fibre/modacrylic spare that you use for swimming and keep your favourite wig in tip-top condition for special occasions. Always wash and treat your swimming wig straight away using our recommended products.
A few things to remember when swimming while wearing a wig:
- No diving. You really don’t want your wig being forced from your head when you splash into the water!
- No bombing. See above!
- Use strong wig tape or water-resistant wig glue to secure your wig to your head.
- If you decide to use a swimming hat to go over your wig then please remember to be careful when you take your swimming hat off!!
Another solution for a relaxed holiday swim while on the beach or in the pool is using a halo under a hat or sports cap.
If you do not have an NHS referral in place and you are under a private hospital, you should be able to claim under your life insurance policy. It is best to speak to your broker and see what they say.
You may hear the term “Cranial Prosthesis” and each insurance policy may offer different levels of cover. So, the best bit of advice we can give you is to check with your broker about what is included in your insurance policy.
We will simply email you the invoice with all the correct information the insurance company requires after your purchase.
Non Surgical Hair Systems
The beauty of your hair system is that it is totally bespoke to you. We offer the choice of either thicker Indian hair, finer European hair or 100% natural Remy human hair. All hair options will be fully discussed and explained during your initial consultation.
In a word…no! Our hair systems are a bespoke solution tailored to your individual requirements.
During your initial consultation, we will work with you to ascertain your desires from your hair system, answer all of your questions and we will fully explain your options regarding which non-surgical hair system we believe is right for you and your lifestyle.
We will then work together to choose a hair type, density, colour and length. Our dedicated stylist will then create your individual system and invite you back to our hair clinic for a second appointment which is when the fitting will take place.

We advise our clients, to maximise the lifespan of their hair system, they return every 6-8 weeks for maintenance.
During this session, the hair system is fully removed from your scalp, which enables us not only to cleanse your scalp but to give your hair system an intense reconditioning treatment using professional, salon-exclusive products.
The price of a maintenance session is between £80 to £120, the price will depend on your individual bespoke design.
This is something that will also be discussed and taken into consideration during your initial consultation as we pride ourselves in being open and honest with our clients… no one likes an unexpected financial surprise!
We work to the very highest standards and our staff have achieved recognised qualifications from the market leaders in hair systems.
Your hair system will be extremely undetectable as we incorporate features such as superfine lace fronts that give the illusion of your own hairline complemented by a monofilament cap which gives the illusion of natural hair protruding from your own scalp… no matter where you have your parting.
We advise you to have your semi-permanent brows and/or eyeliner initial consultation booked in as soon as possible.
Ideally, before you start your chemotherapy treatment or at the beginning stage of alopecia as this will be the most natural approach for you. However, we regularly still see clients that have completely lost their eyebrows and lashes and can quite safely and comfortably do the semi-permanent makeup procedure.
Contact us to book your appointment.
Please allow approximately 1 – 2 hours for your procedure. You will also be booked in for a follow-up colour boost appointment six weeks after your initial treatment. This is inclusive of the price (unless otherwise agreed).
Semi-permanent brows usually last between 8-15 months depending on your skin type and lifestyle.
Good question… It all depends on individual needs and preferred look, as well as individual people, skin types, and lifestyle choices.
Semi-permanent brows can last as long as 15-months and others around 6-months as they prefer a more freshly defined look. However, we recommend a maximum of a yearly colour refresh or sooner to all our clients, as this will keep the brow shape maintained and colour refreshed.
The healing period is approximately two weeks from your first appointment.
Don’t worry, we will talk you through the healing process and we also provide you with full aftercare instructions.
We are always available for help and advice after your procedure, just contact one of us in our hair clinic, we are always here to help you.
Your eyebrows/liner will be darker than what the healed results will be, however, any redness after treatment will fade in a few hours.
Some people feel conscious of their new colour and slight brightness, and some love their new look and want to show it off straight away. It’s an individual decision.
Yes, of course!
Every client is treated individually and the correct shade/colour will be shown to you and colour tested on your skin before it is applied.
There is an extensive colour range and colours can be mixed to match your natural eyebrow colour and skin tone. With regards to shape – a template is drawn onto your brow and pictures are taken to show you your desired shape.
Rest assured, it is only once you are happy with the template and colour, that the semi-permanent tattooing will commence.
We’ll make sure every one of your needs are met and welcome you in for a free consult.
